Q. Why should I buy a WYSIWYG web design program? If I learn HTML, I can use a text editor, like notepad, to write the code and it won't cost me anything.
A. If you want to learn HTML, I encourage it. But be aware that you're probably going to have to spend $25 or more on a book to teach you HTML and spend lots of time learning and experimenting. Why not buy a program that helps you slowly understand code while allowing you to create a website graphically? Besides, visual website editors are much faster than hand coding.

Q. I was always told that WYSIWYG web design programs produced really bloated HTML code. Since a fast loading site is important, isn't this a problem worth considering?
A. This was a concern with some of the older programs. I have actually run a code cleaner on the HTML files produced by two of the software programs we offer, and the results were outstanding. Remember, even many people who hand code HTML end up making mistakes and adding unneeded code.

Q. I have been considering a WYSIWYG website building program for some time. Even though you don't offer it for sale, would you recommend a product like Microsoft FrontPage?
A. FrontPage is widely used, but in my personal experience with it, the software we feature is easier, has more features and costs considerably less, and the results are certainly just as good.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. If I create a website, and decide to change some things on one of the pages, will I have to redo the entire site?
A. Most of our software will create multiple page or unlimited page websites. If you make changes, you can re-publish the page(s) and upload only the changed one(s) to your web host's server.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. There are a couple of free WYSIWYG editors out there. Why shouldn't I use one of them instead of buying software?
A. You're right, there are some free visual editors available, and having tried most of them, I found them to be either somewhat buggy, lacking in features, unintuituve, clunky, or having little to nothing in the way of help and support.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. Wait a minute, you just said that the free visual editors weren't that good, but you have links to some free web stuff on your site. Why would I consider downloading it?
A. The free stuff I'm providing links for are either e-books, graphics, javascript code, or small programs that are designed to do one specific thing, not something as complex as a WYSIWYG editor that is required to perform so many different functions.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. Ok, so you're selling website builder software on this site, but do you actually use any of the programs to create your own websites?
A. Yes, I do. All my websites, including this one, were created with Virtual Mechanics SiteSpinner V2. The first product I tried was Microsoft Frontpage, but I just didn't like it. Having worked with CADD (computer aided drafting and design) and graphic design software, I wanted something that that made more sense to me - something that would allow me to see exactly what the page looked like in real time as I was designing it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I want to start a business website and sell products, but the software I'm interested in doesn't offer a shopping cart feature. How can I offer products for sale without a shopping cart?
A. Many 3rd part shopping cart software products are available on the web. You can host your own cart or use an online cart software solution. Some web hosting companies even offer shopping cart solutions if you host your site with them. If you are looking to sell downloadable software products or e-books, there are companies such as RegNow.com and Clickbank.com that handle everything for you, including the products.

Q. I don't understand all this search engine optimization stuff. Can't I just put my site on the web and start selling products?
A. To sell anything, you obviously need customers. The vast majority of your prospective customers will attempt to find your site by using search engines such as Google, MSN, Yahoo!, etc. Even If you don't submit your site to the search engines, they will eventually find it and index it, but if you aren't on the first two pages of queried results, forget it. The only way to get to the top of those results is through search engine optimization.
